Annual House-to-House Canvass

East Devon District Council is looking for people to deliver forms for the annual house to house canvass.  This is to ensure that people are included on the electoral register. Being registered allows people to not only vote in elections, but also has a positive effect on their credit rating.

The district council will pay £8 per hour and 45p per mile.  Any forms that you return that allow EDDC to amend the register, they will pay you an extra 50p.  You will be required to call at the relevant address and ask the occupant(s) to fill in their form.  If there is no response to your call, you will leave a calling card stating an allocated time that you will return.  If when you make your second visit there is still no reply, you will post the form through the letter box.

If you are interested, please email Louise Hodges, EDDC’s electoral services assistant on .  The timescale will be from 24 October – 31 March 2017.

Check your broadband speed

Residents in Gittisham parish are being urged to check their broadband speed and report the results to Devon County Council.

You can do this by visiting http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk

Then report it to Matt Barrow () with a copy to Claire Wright () one of our Devon county councillors.  It could potentially help in getting the parish connected to faster broadband services.

Gittisham to have its say on affordable housing

People with a personal connection to Gittisham in East Devon are being invited to provide their views on affordable housing for the village.

A housing need survey has gone out to all parish residents, but the group behind the survey says people from outside the parish can contribute as well by downloading the survey or contacting Devon Communities Together.

Housing need surveys are undertaken in communities to establish the level and nature of current and future housing need.

Gittisham Parish Council, in conjunction with East Devon District Council, has commissioned Devon Communities Together to carry out an independent survey of all homes in the parish.

Councillor David Valentine (Gittisham Vale ward), said it was crucial that as many people as possible fill in the survey and return it by 10th June.

“In our parish plan we asked residents if they would support small-scale development in Gittisham village, and the answer was a definite yes,” said Cllr Valentine.   “Respondents felt that there should be more affordable housing for local people and more housing available for rent, while retaining what keeps this community special. But if people want that to become reality, filling in this survey is the first step in that process because then we can assess how many people could benefit from affordable housing.  If there are people who’ve moved away from the parish because of the lack of affordable housing, we would really like to hear from them.”

Paper copies of the forms have been sent to every household in the parish and the survey will be open from now until 10th June.  People can also download the survey online to complete by hand at https://www.devoncommunities.org.uk/housing-need-surveys or contact Janice Alexander at Devon Communities Together who will send them a form.

This is the first step in finding out if there is a need for more affordable housing in the parish, so please get those forms filled in and returned.

Thanks!

Road closure, Gittisham 8th April 2016

Circumstances and weather permitting, South West Highways will be undertaking essential highway maintenance works on behalf of Devon County Council, on 8 April 2016.

The works will involve essential  surface patching works in the highway between Gittisham Farm Cross and Eveleigh’s Farm in the centre of the village.  In order to carry out these works, a road closure and diversion will be in place.

We’ve been assured that the work will be done first thing and won’t affect anyone attending the funeral of Richard Saunders at 1.30pm in the church.
