It is with great sadness that the organising committee have decided that we can no longer put on the 2020 Flower Show. We will keep the schedules for next year, so this year will be a practice run for everyone.
WE CAN RUN THE POTATOES IN A BUCKET COMPETITION VIRTUALLY, THOUGH. SO KEEP FEEDING THEM.
We will be in touch about how and when to weigh your potatoes nearer the date.
Gittisham’s residents, voluntary groups and other organisations are being asked for their ideas on how to spend money available for outdoor sports facilities in the parish.
East Devon District and Gittisham Parish Councils are inviting everyone in the village to send in their ideas on how to spend the money.
The funds – Section 106 money – have been collected by East Devon District Council from housing developments in the parish and the council has a clear policy of ensuring that residents and parish organisations should choose how the money is spent. Other local authorities don’t involve town or parish councils or the community in spending this money.
Ideas can include all sorts of outdoor sports from an outdoor gym or skate park to works being carried out at a cricket or football pitch.
Proposals must be for:
New outdoor sports facilities or to improve existing outdoor sports facilities.
Permanently sited sports facilities and equipment. For example, football goals, courts or training areas, so not for movable equipment like cricket bats, kayaks or tennis rackets.
Sports facilities or equipment that is open and accessible to the community. A small fee may be charged but it must be affordable.
Funding cannot be spent on buildings, indoor facilities, professional sports grounds or golf courses.
All ideas must be submitted to Gittisham Parish Council by Saturday 27 June 2020.
Please submit details by email to:
or post to: Clerk to the Council, Garlands, Gittisham, Honiton EX14 3AJ
Include your name, your contact details, information on what your proposal is and an estimate of how much you think it will cost, if possible. We can then contact you for further information if we need to. Your idea doesn’t have to be a worked up project, it can just be a simple paragraph.
Once the Parish Council has received the proposals they will work with East Devon District Council to make sure they are eligible, affordable and possible. Residents will then be given a chance to look at all the ideas that can happen and vote on them.
The ones that gain the most votes are where the money will be spent.
Whilst there is uncertainty over whether Gittisham’s annual flower & produce show will go ahead this summer, the organisers have decided to plan for it happening.
The show is open to all residents of Gittisham parish, which includes Gittisham Vale and Hayne Farm estate. Entries from those who no longer live in the parish, those who actively support the parish, and those with close links to the parish are also welcomed.
The seeds for the special category of potatoes grown in a bucket are ready. If you entered last year you should have your bucket with a number on it. The seed potatoes to be used can be collected from the back door of Parkers East EX14 3AS from Wednesday 1st April. They will be there from 9.30 am until dark with an honesty box for the £1 per potato and a sheet of paper for you to write down your name and the bucket number(s).
It would be sad if the show cannot take place, but you will have had the pleasure of watching your produce grow.
